I keep getting this message and can't figure out why? The strat does work regardless.

You don't need "risk" enabled to just set an 8 tick trailing stop. I'm not sure but I think setting it to 8.00 is telling the system to limit your risk to $8 and to decide the sizing based on that and the stop offset - see https://docs.motivewave.com/release-notes/whats-new-in-version-6.0#risk-based-strategies.

The fixed amount risk means you want it to calculate your risk to 8$ everytime you open a trade. That comes out to less than 1 contract, which is impossible to open with, so MW selects 1 contract for the strategy.

That doesn't make sense to me. The form asks for how many ticks I want to risk, not contracts, and what was risking a contract even mean?

It’s asking home many dollars, not ticks. Just disable the checkbox “risk” - you don’t need it.
