I am using a desktop window where I do my analysis. When rolling the contract I lose all studies. The Mars H25 contract switch to June M25 contract remove all the studies. The analysis concept for me is still a pain. For instance, when rolling the contract using the right click, the analysis I created for the Mars contract does not bring the study back. It does not keep the studies in it. I roolled and tried to use a chart template I created before rolling, still the studies won't show up on the new contract, which is very annoying....

Anybody having the same problem? What am I doing wrong?

Regards

Do you have every one of your charts saved as an "Analysis"? If not, and the chart is just an untitled analysis I don't think it will roll correctly.

I have every one of my charts named with their own name (Or analysis) and when I roll everything gets applied to the new chart with the new symbol.

If they are named, it should look something like this at the top... Not just a series of Untitled or ESM25 Charts with a timeframe next to it.

Look at my reply in this thread for a more detailed explanation. ?

Also regarding roll over - When you roll via right click, you should get this menu. Make sure this is checked.

Also a good tip for anyone rolling over.

Make sure to make a backup before you start:

File > Backup > Name it something like "Pre_Roll"

If the roll over turns out to be a mess you can always essentially just start over

File > Restore > Choose that file you made.

This backs up the entire MotiveWave workspace. This saves and restores everything and has saved me a lot of headaches! :)

Hello Don,

I may had left the untitled only box check along all the others. I tried without it and All studies are now set into the new instrument roll. Make sure you don't do like the first screen shot. Do like the the second one. For some reason, I have one more box (Roll untitled only) which will not grey out if I check an opposite option. Gracias Mucho Don. As far as data pick what you prefer unadjusted, last price, etc

Unrelated question - I'm on rithmic, both directly and via props. I couldn't get rid of the gap regardless of the method chosen when rolling equities futures today. After digging, I can see that ESM2025 is reporting the prices from ESH2025 until 4pm Central today. I.e. there is still a gap in unadjusted ESM5 data that prevents me from correctly rolling over all the levels. Does anyone know how to fix this?

There is technically two places where each chart has the roll-over settings stored, so it is possible one setting is "fighting" another.

One is:

Right click on an empty space on the chart and go to Edit Instrument > Data Tab.

The other is:

Right click on an empty space on the chart and go to Chart Settings > Data Tab.

Make sure both of those are set to the same thing.

Now if you are saying that ESM25 is giving you ESH25 prices that sounds to me like you might be running a continuous contract and the roll over method is set to Volume > Unadjusted. The volume in the June contract did exceed the March contract today, so that would make it roll after the close.

If you are using a continuous contract it will pull in the data from the "old" contract until the specifications of your roll over method are met...
IE - XXX number of days before expiration, or volume, etc.

Not sure if this helps - Just trying to throw out ideas since I learned the hard way of the quirks of rolling over ?

Thanks, that helped. I set Chart Settings to "None", and then rolled using custom amount.
