Stop Limit Order

Hello. I'm having a difficult time trying to place a stop limit order below the bid or above the ask when price is moving against me. I would like for this to close out my trade like a OCO order. The goal is to not use a market order. This would help me save some ticks before hitting my stop. Any suggestions on how to do this?
